Louisiana Train Rides
The Pelican State has 2947 route miles of track and is served by three Amtrak passenger trains, the City of New Orleans, from Chicago, the Cresent from New York and triweekly service from Los Angeles on the Sunset Limited, all which meet at the 1954 New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The states first railroad was the Pontchartrain Railroad, chartered in 1830 and was part of the Louisville & Nashville until 1935.
It's most notable locomotive is the Texas & New Orleans (SP) 2-8-2, No. 745 built in 1921 in Algeirs, La. After being on display since 1956, it was restored into service in 2004.

Listed on the National Register of Historical Places, this former Kansas City Southern depot displays a 1913 Alco steam locomotive, a caboose, a passenger coach as well other railroad artifacts. The annual Louisana Railroad Days Festival is held here in April. Directions
JACKSON
OLD HICKORY RAILROAD
Old Hickory Railroad features a live narrow gauge steam locomotive pulling two open coaches on a 6.2 mile journey back in time through the historic town of Jackson, La. It is also home to the Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders, whose extensive layouts in O, HO, N, S and G scale, including live steam, will impress train enthusiasts of all ages. The G scale Little Hickory Railroad is one of only two publicly accessible outdoor garden railroads in Louisiana. Directions.

SOUTHERN FOREST HERITAGE MUSEUM
Museum is a 57 acre historic lumber milling complex, featuring early logging locomotives, a Clyde skidder and other steam locomotives. Milling operations ran from 1892 until 1969. Steam locomotives include two 4-6-0's and one 2-6-0, that are in various stages of cosmetic restoration. Motorcar rides on original rail track available.Directions
